A camera does not get tired. The last item gets the first look.

Human inspection is good, and it varies across a shift and between two people doing it. A model applies the same judgement to the first item and to the ten thousandth one. It says when it is unsure.

What computer vision quality control is

Computer vision quality control uses a trained model and a camera to check items against examples of what good and bad look like. Each item gets a score rather than a verdict, and where that score sits decides whether it passes or goes to a person. The value is consistency rather than perfection, because a threshold does not drift over a shift.

Inspection that varies by the hour

Visual checking is done by people. People are good at it and also human. Attention drops across a shift, standards differ between inspectors, and what got through is invisible until a customer finds it. The cost arrives later as returns, and by then nobody can say which batch it was.

    Industrial rigs are supported and often unnecessary. A good commercial camera or a phone is enough for a great many inspection jobs.

Do we need expensive industrial cameras?

Often not. A good commercial camera or a recent phone handles a surprising number of inspection jobs. Lighting matters more than the sensor for most of them. Industrial rigs earn their place on fast lines and fine tolerances, which is a smaller set of jobs than people expect.

Where does the model actually run?

On a server, which can be yours or hosted. That choice is about where the images are allowed to sit rather than about speed. It gets made in the first fortnight.

How do you train it on our products?

With your own images of both good and defective items. Examples of what a defect looks like on your own line matter more than sheer volume. The borderline ones are the most valuable. Collection starts in the first week.

Will it catch every defect?

No, and neither does a person. What it does is apply the same threshold every time, which means the misses are consistent and measurable rather than dependent on the hour. You choose where the line sits, and tighter catches more while flagging more for review.

What does AI visual inspection services actually cover?

Checking a physical thing against a standard. That covers damage, presence and placement, and it stops short of judging something the model has no examples of.

How does automated defect detection handle a new fault?

It flags it rather than passing it, because it will not match anything it knows. That is the correct behaviour, and it is why the flagged pile is worth reviewing. New defects are how the next model gets its examples.
